Day 1 at Gettysburg was the opening stages of the epic Civil War battle.
Fighting focussed upon McPherson ridge and eventually the Union forces withdrawing towards the Town.
Following earlier engagement with Union cavalry who fought a delaying action, the Confederates crossed Willoughby Run and headed for McPherson ridge. Here they engaged the famous Iron Brigade. General Reynolds was killed in the action.
See photos below which show a brief section of the battle re-enacted today.

More photos of the action, for some reason these didn't attach.
The Iron Brigade advance to McPherson ridge and reach the objective ahead of the Confederates.
Reynolds rallies the Brigade but pays the price, shot by an enemy volley.
The Brigade charge with fixed bayonets and both sides engage in exchanges of musketry and hand to hand combat.
I hope you like the photos, very pleased with the 8 hex hills that I ordered which make excellent objectives.
